Extreme Fear: How to deal with a petrified market
21st June 2021 |
What’s the best course of action when there’s extreme fear in a market?
Do you,
- Sell everything and run for the hills
- Rampantly throw everything you can at the market hoping something sticks
- Learn, understand and then make a reasoned, rational move
I have no doubt there will be people that right now are doing a lot of a) and b).
But the smart move is c).
Take a look at today’s crypto “Fear & Greed” index.

Thankfully I’m dialled in to a lot of the things taking place in the crypto world right now.
Those things range from small countries accepting crypto as legal tender to US states changing the playing field (in a positive way) for their traditional system banks.
Being plugged in means I can see what development and innovation is taking place. I can see who’s doing it, how they’re doing it and why they’re doing it.
Much of this is innovation that I’ve forecast would happen.
Nothing of what is happening is a great surprise to me.
It’s why even though there’s “extreme fear” in the market, I’m not bothered one bit.
If anything I’ve never been more positive about the crypto markets and the future of it all, than I am right now, today.
I thought the best thing for me to do today to help guide you through this period of “extreme fear” is to talk to you about it.
That’s why today, below, you’ll find a 24-minute recording I did this morning for you.
It’s just to give you my take on how I see the market right now and what I think you should be doing to manage yourself through this time.
You can listen to it below.

Now, I want you to do the things I’ve suggested in the audio file.
Turn off your price notifications. Stop day to day obsessing on the prices. Read, learn, research, and understand. A great starting point is still the list of crypto to know you’ll find at the end of today’s update.
Use this time when most people are petrified, to level up your crypto game.
Stay calm, be rational, and – importantly – enjoy the ride.
Crypto to Know
Below is our “Crypto to Know” list where you’ll find several cryptos that we think you should be taking the time to learn and understand.
They each form an important part of the burgeoning crypto ecosystem.
Several of these cryptos are doing very different things to others.
What’s key is to learn that every crypto has its own use cases, its own guiding principles, and its own particular potential.
Each crypto is to be judged and assessed on its own merits.
Our aim here is to help you understand these cryptos and the wider crypto world.
These aren’t specific recommendations but a guide to help you learn and build your confidence in operating in this space.
We will add more names to this list over time. However, if you’re new to the world of crypto, these are the names where we think you should start your education and learning.
We’ve also added links to each one.
The links are to what we believe, in each case, is the best resource for learning about that crypto.

PS As a final reminder I’m away for three weeks on paternity leave. Looking after the family always takes precedence. There won’t be a Sam Volkering’s Crypto Network update on 5 July.
Your next update will be the 19 July, from me again when I’m back from my paternity leave. You’ll continue to receive Frontier Tech Investor while I’m away, which I’ll explain more about in this week’s Frontier Tech Investor update before I take my time off.
PPS Some of my readers have been asking about SPACs, an investment vehicle that has surged in popularity over the last months.
And for good reason.
Capital is moving fast to SPACs.
To help British investors understand and invest in this asset class, I’ve put together an investment summit.
Click here to watch it for free.
It’s only available until 30th June.
