When buying a call option your maximum risk is equal to the total premium paid (the option price). If the trade moves against you, your losses are limited to whatever you paid for the contract plus any trading fees (your total investment plus fees). If you do not close your option trade before expiry, your broker may automatically exercise the option meaning you take ownership of the underlying shares. Options contracts can be complex and difficult to price. Investors should make sure they fully understand the potential risks before entering into an options position.
